Practical guides for the working homeowner

Miter House

Practical home improvement guides from someone who's done it wrong first.

About Miter House

Miter House exists because most home improvement advice online is either written by people who've never held a drill or padded with filler to hit a word count. We do things differently.

Every guide on this site comes from hands-on experience. Real costs, real steps, real trade-offs — including the mistakes so you don't have to make them yourself.

Who We Are

Daniel Ware — Daniel Ware has spent over a decade tackling home improvement projects — from gutting and refinishing basements to rebuilding decks and retiling bathrooms. He learned most of what he knows the hard way: by making mistakes on his own house before getting it right. At Miter House, he writes the kind of practical, no-fluff guides he wished he'd had when starting out.

What We Cover

We focus on the topics that matter most to homeowners tackling projects themselves or trying to budget smartly for professional help:

  • Kitchen & Bath Remodeling
  • Flooring & Tile
  • Painting & Walls
  • Outdoor & Landscaping
  • Plumbing & Electrical
  • Basement & Attic
  • Tools & Materials
  • Budget & Planning

Our Standards

We never fabricate cost numbers, invent statistics, or recommend products we haven't researched. If we're unsure about something, we say so. Every article is written to be the guide we wish we'd found when we started a project.
